Five Areas of Your Facility Worth Reviewing This Fall

The transition into fall is a useful time for convenience stores, travel centers, foodservice operations, and retail businesses to review the areas customers and employees rely on every day.

A quick facility walkthrough can help identify missing supplies, maintenance concerns, and opportunities to prepare for changing seasonal demands.

Here are five areas worth reviewing.

  1. Restrooms

Restrooms can have a significant impact on a customer’s impression of a business.

Check paper towels, toilet tissue, hand soap, air fresheners, can liners, and cleaning chemicals. Dispensers should also be inspected to make sure they are working correctly and can be easily replenished.

Consider whether current inventory levels are enough to support normal traffic without frequent emergency restocking.

  1. Gas Island

For fuel retailers, the gas island may be one of the first areas customers experience.

Review windshield wash stations, squeegees, paper towels, trash receptacles, absorbents, and can liners. Removing litter and maintaining clean fueling areas can help create a better first impression before customers enter the store.

  1. Beverage Station

Beverage stations can experience heavy traffic throughout the day, making organization and inventory especially important.

Check cups, lids, straws, stirrers, napkins, and other accessories. As cooler temperatures arrive, operators should also consider whether hot beverage supplies are appropriately stocked for changing demand.

  1. Foodservice Area

Review the supplies supporting food preparation, packaging, and service.

Containers, wraps, bags, gloves, napkins, cutlery, and cleaning products should be readily available and appropriate for the foods being served.

If menus or seasonal offerings are changing, make sure packaging and service supplies are changing with them.

  1. Back-of-House Areas

Customers may never see the back of the operation, but keeping these spaces organized can have a major impact on efficiency.

Review inventory levels, cleaning supplies, can liners, wipers, storage areas, and frequently used operational products. Look for excess inventory taking up valuable space as well as essential products that are consistently running low.

Make Your Facility Walkthrough Count

A facility review does not need to be complicated. Walk through each area from the perspective of both the customer and the employees responsible for maintaining it.

Ask a few simple questions: Is everything clean? Is everything stocked? Are employees regularly running out of anything? Are there products taking up unnecessary storage space?

TSN Distribution offers products across foodservice, janitorial, restroom, beverage, gas island, and general facility categories to help businesses keep these areas prepared for daily demand.

A little preparation now can help create smoother operations throughout the season.
